General description
Native holotransferrin from human plasma. Transferrin is a serum protein involved in iron binding and transport.
Native holotransferrin from human plasma. Transferrin is a major iron binding protein and is found in human plasma or serum at concentrations of 3 mg/ml. Its concentration correlates with the total iron binding capacity of serum and its level is regulated by the availability of iron. It has bacteriostatic and fungistatic activity and is essential for iron utilization by the hemin-synthesizing reticulocytes. Stored in bone marrow as Tf-bound iron.
